Text 21 Jan Visualizing where YA’ want to be

Throughout my life I’ve always taken time, often on Saturday mornings here and there to step back and considered where I’m at and where I want to go in life

The world is changing (Dah!), but more specifically the pace of life and particularly the volume of information we consume and transmit is dramatically increasing.

In this day and age, one must conduct knowledge at a much higher rate than the past. Data flows in from far outside your personal and geographical life which can alter your state of thought and change your behavior. Your actions have the power to affect others in corners of the world that you’ve never visited or even heard of. Just last week someone wrote and told me they met through my climbing website, Climbfind and ended up getting married. All that because I had an idea and pressed a couple of keys a few years previous in a completely different country!

I have never been the best at researching and consuming information. A few times in life, I have even tried to implement the opposite strategy by filtering my information intake to only a few specific interests. However, living in San Francisco has solidified my realization that in the world to come, this strategy will NEVER work.

Now I find myself at a point in life where I want to visualize being somewhere else. The biggest problem with my current stage is that frankly, I’m not sure where that is, and I don’t have any emotional drive to move in a particular direction from where I now stand. There are reasons for this state, it’s ok I’m here, but I’d rather be somewhere else going forward.

So my immediate task at hand is to find where it is I am to go.

I have a formula that I’ve recently thought up, which I’d like to try to use moving through this process. The idea being every week I follow 5 people and 5 organizations, they may stay the same or I may switch them out as I go. The goal is to sum up what’s happened with the “2by5” so that I receive information which inspires direction and how I am to proceed. After my weekly summary, I will write down how I’d like to travel/ what I’d like to see unfold in my personal life in the next 2 week as well as the next 2 months.

Why 2 months, seems so short? I know some people like to visualize their end state, however I’d much rather be realistic and focus on what is achievable. Small steps you see. I believe big successes are lots and lots of small ones stacked on top of and permuting on one another. My goal this year it to stack wins with as few losses as possible.

Should be a interesting en devour.

Having recently decided to move on from my second start-up that has consumed my full focus in 2011, now is a time of reflection and evolution for the year ahead. Here goes a few quick ideas.
(1) Change myself => Become more social both in the real world and online.
(2) You are in control => Most of my life I have lived fearlessly as though I am in control… So what if I’m not where I want to be at 28 - I must not quit now!
(3) Forgive & forget => I guess I need to be less hard on myself and not brood on  mistakes I’ve made in the past. Let’s get on with it.
(4) Take Care of this moment => I’m good at doing what I want, but I could use less distraction for tackling things head on and making the most of now.
(5) Without action you aren’t going anywhere => Yes but my actions must be more calculated and better sequenced to strategically continue to make small wins and not loose territory.
(6) Everyone is human => Perhaps I need to be more balanced and exert energy in waves rather than trying to persist in constant motion.
(7) See the good in people and help them => OK! I will focus on 5 people a month.
(8) Persist => That I SHALL!
(9) Be congruent, be authentic, be your true self => Ok
(10) Continue to grow and evolve => Bring it!
